Filmmaking

The challenge: Usually films have actors and a crew. I had neither.
The approach: With only a few hours of natural light left, I gathered things I had around the house to shoot a short film. I simultaneously took on the role of puppeteer, camera operator, and set builder, executing 5 depth of field shots.
The outcome: I learned to trust my resourcefulness and creative problem-solving skills.
Depth of Field Film Assignment

Photography
Food Photography Assignment
The challenge: Rather than scrumptious cakes and cookies, my group received a can of SPAM. We only had 3 hours to set-up, shoot, and deliver our photos.
The approach: Using some provided props, natural lighting, and the resources around us (like a shoelace), I assisted my classmates with display execution and took the photos.
The outcome: We tied for first place. I learned to not only embrace a creative challenge, but to get excited for them!

Advertising

Levi's Super Bowl Ad
The challenge: Creating a static print ad of a Super Bowl ad that tells the same story as the video.
The approach: I started writing elaborate backstories for each person featured in the video ad, but I was worried it didn’t match the video closely enough. So, I placed all the people featured into one ad. My instructor re-directed me back to the first idea, stating it had legs and would resonate better with a variety of different audiences. Taking that note, I decided I would strategically place this ad in Rolling Stone to speak to their target audience, and create a series of ads with different target audiences in a variety of magazines.
The outcome: I learned to trust my creative instincts.
